Are You Ready to Serve?

If you’re ready to make a difference, the Georgia State Defense Force is ready for you. Whether you want to help your community, support state missions, or develop new skills, there’s a place for you in the GSDF. Serving is meaningful, hands-on, and close to home — and every volunteer makes an impact. Take the first step today and join a team that’s making a real difference in Georgia.

Citizenship and Age

All members of the GSDF must be a US Citizen or Legal Resident.  You must be between the ages of 18 and 64, with age extensions available. You must have a high school diploma or GED. Due to the cost of training and processing time of new personnel, the GSDF requires a minimum two (2) years commitment to serve.

Background Check

All GSDF recruits are required to undergo a background check. This information will be kept confidential. All applications will be handled on an individual basis. While certain convictions do not bar entry, it will be very important to be honest when filling out the security packet as falsification of information will be grounds for dismissal.

Height & Weight Guidelines

We have height and weight standards to help ensure health, safety, and a professional appearance in uniform. Don’t worry if you’re slightly outside the limits — exceptions can be considered, and we welcome volunteers who are committed to serving Georgia. The GSDF Height and Weight Standards are here

Hair & Tattoo Policy

The GSDF has a tattoo policy that permits certain hand and neck tattoos, aligning with recent trends in military and law enforcement agencies to attract a broader range of recruits. This policy allows for limited hand and neck tattoos. We follow the same regulations as the Army - you can see their policy here
