Band and Chorus

Answer the Call — In Harmony

A military band’s mission is clear and enduring: to support the force, honor the fallen, strengthen morale, and represent our state and nation — through music.

The Georgia State Defense Force Band, part of the Georgia State Defense Force (GSDF), proudly carries that mission forward across Georgia. Our musicians perform at military ceremonies, memorial services, official events, and community engagements, providing the soundtrack to moments of honor, remembrance, and celebration. Through music, we uplift our Soldiers, inspire our citizens, and reflect the proud heritage of our state.

Military music in America dates back to the American Revolutionary War, when drummers and fifers marched with Continental Army units to relay commands and strengthen morale. Recognizing its importance, George Washington authorized regimental bands in 1779, establishing traditions that continue today. Georgia has long shared in this legacy, with military bands supporting Soldiers and communities throughout our state’s history.

Today, the GSDF Band continues that proud tradition. If you are a musician who wants your talent to serve a greater purpose — while remaining close to home — there is a place for you in the GSDF Band.

Serve with skill. Serve with pride. Serve through music.

  • Community Relations/Outreach—Concerts, patriotic observances (e.g., Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veteran’s Day) and other special events for cities, towns, and municipalities
