It is with great sadness that we announce Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Patrick Jerome O'Leary, 84, of Forest Park, passed away on February 24, 2026.
Born April 8, 1941, in Manila, Philippine Islands, he was educated by the Christian Brothers at De La Salle College, where he excelled as a track and field athlete. After marrying Amparo “Chiqui” Ferreira in 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and went on to serve 26 years, including a tour in Vietnam, retiring in 1991 from Ft. McPherson as a Command Sergeant Major. He continued working for the Department of the Army until 1998 and later served 22 years in the Georgia State Defense Force.
In retirement, he remained active in his community through the Morrow Police Citizen Police Academy, the Forest Park Senior Center, and the Senior Olympics, returning to his love of track and field competition.
